SUMMARY:Art In the Open: Karla Kopalli, Nature/Nurture Performance
DESCRIPTION:Join Karla Kopalli for the premier of Nature/Nurture, a multi-part public art project honoring the vital contributions of San Antonio’s women to their families, communities, and city. Through collective creation and performance, this project highlights the nourishing power of women as a force for thriving communities. \nCelebrate International Women’s Day with a powerful performance at 2pm featuring Nature/Nurture, a collaborative public art project led by Karla Kopalli in collaboration with women of San Antonio from 2024 through today. This 20-minute event is a ritual of recognition and celebration, bringing together project participants and their guests to honor their contributions. \nThe performance incorporates 260 caracolas produced by project participants across San Antonio highlighting their collective significance as symbols of creativity, strength, and nurturing care. Together, the community will witness a moment of gratitude and connection, where art becomes a celebration of life and resilience. \nKarla Kopalli is a multidisciplinary artist and activist whose work bridges nature, sustainability, and spiritual expression through collective and regenerative art-making practices. She has completed public art projects in Australia, México, and the United States, including work for the Smithsonian Latino Museum, the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C., and the Witte Museum in San Antonio. \nArt In the Open is a San Antonio River Foundation initiative and program to support artists and engage the San Antonio River community and our visitors with contemporary art experiences. Artists are invited to present projects at Confluence Park that align with San Antonio River Foundation’s mission to enhance the river as a vibrant cultural experience and promote and encourage the conservation, stewardship, and enjoyment of the San Antonio River Basin. \n
