Call for Artists: Branch River Park Painted Cow Sculpture
The San Antonio River Foundation is excited to announce a unique opportunity for artists in the San Antonio River community!
In partnership with Canoe Trail Goliad, Main Street Goliad, and the San Antonio River Authority, the San Antonio River Foundation is seeking a talented artist to paint a river-themed cow sculpture to be displayed at Branch River Park in Goliad, Texas. This project aims to honor the contributions of John Barnhart and Adair Sutherland, two local heroes of the river and former SARA Board members from Goliad who played pivotal roles in the creation of the Goliad Paddling Trail.

Eligibility
The opportunity is open to all artists and designers, ages18 years and over, and a part of the San Antonio River community, residing in Bexar, Goliad, Karnes, Refugio, or Wilson regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender, military status, sexual orientation, marital status, or physical or mental disability.
Artwork goals
- Celebrate the recreational experience of the Goliad Paddling Trail
- Create excitement and interest from the community and Branch River Park visitors
- Honor the contributions of John Barnhart and Adair Sutherland, local heroes of the San Antonio River
Artwork location
Branch River Park at Fannin Street entrance, 445 S Commercial St, Goliad, TX 77963
Proposals should demonstrate the following
- An outline of their river-themed concept including proposed medium or paint suitable for the outdoor environment.
- Experience completing an aesthetically excellent artwork; include a portfolio (5-10 images) showcasing previous relevant work.
- Interest in contributing to the San Antonio River public art landscape at Branch River Park.
Timeline
- Open call applications accepted: Wednesday, May 1 – Friday, May 31, at 4:59pm
- Artist notified Monday, June 10
- Estimated artwork production Monday, June 17 – July 5, 2024 (will coordinate with selected artist and installers)
- Painted Cow at Branch River Park Celebration (TBD)
Benefits
- $2,000 Artist Fee for the selected artist, including costs for materials and supplies.
- Exposure to a wide audience through Branch River Park’s visitors.
- Contribution to the beautification of the San Antonio River and Goliad Paddling Trail.
